In order to become a Certified Residential or General Appraiser in Louisiana, a person must obtain the certification from the Louisiana Real Estate Board of Certification. Residential Certification requires 200 Classroom Hours in a specific curriculum and General Certification requires an additional 100 Classroom Hours in a specific curriculum. You must then pass either the Residential Appraisal Examination, General Appraisal Examination, or if you choose both of these examinations and meet any other qualifications the state or AQB may require. HOW TO GET STARTED:
The first step to a new career in the appraisal business is a trainee's license. In order to obtain this license, you will need 75 hours of pre-license training in three specific courses. These courses are:
Basic Appraisal Principles (Course 101)
The basic appraisal course provides an overview of real property concepts and characteristics, legal considerations, value influences, real estate finance, types of value, economic principles, real estate markets and analysis, and ethics in appraisal.Through theory, case studies, and examples this book offers practical application of appraisal principles.
Basic Appraisal Procedures (Course 102)
This course provides an overview of real estate appraisal approaches to value, valuation procedures, property description, residential and commercial applications, construction and home inspection, and appraisal math.
We combine Courses 101 and 102 into one comprehensive licensing program we call the Residential Appraisal Trainee Course. This 60 hour course is offered on a regular basis in both our Metairie and Baton Rouge Campus locations. USPAP Certification Course (Course 103)
The 15-hour National USPAP Course is a comprehensive course that covers the fundamentals and applicability of Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). This course has been developed by The Appraisal Foundation and approved by the Louisiana Real Estate Appraisers State Board of Certification as the required course for 15 Hours of Pre-Licensing Credit.This is the USPAP material that students will have to learn to pass the USPAP Section of the Appraisal Examination.
