Requirements

Home Inspector Licensing Requirements

An applicant for a Louisiana Home Inspector's License must:
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a high school graduate or hold a GED or equivalent from another country
  • Complete the 90 Hour Pre-License Course (Home Inspector Pre-License Course)
  • Complete the 30 Hour Field Training Course (Home Inspector 30 Hour Field Training Course)
  • Pass the Home Inspector's Examination

In Louisiana, there is no state residency requirement to have a Home Inspector's License.  You are required to be a United States Citizen or a Legal Alien.

Step 1: Register for Home Inspector Pre-License Course

Refer to our Course Calendar on the left side of this page.  You may register by calling one of our Customer Service Representatives at 456-1785 in the Greater New Orleans Area or Toll Free at 1-800-257-2741.

Step 2: Apply with the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors
to take the Exam 
  
You cannot apply with EBPHI until you have taken your classroom hours.  The exam is given on an ongoing basis several times a week in Metairie and Shreveport. We will give you the application and how you how and where to apply for the test in the Pre-License Course.

Step 3: Submit Your License Application to the Louisiana State Board of Home Inspectors 
   
We give you the License Application in Class and share with you how to fill it out, where to send it, and when it is due. You are not allowed to apply for the examination until you have completed your 90 hours and passed our final exam to receive a certificate of completion of the 90 hour coursework.
