HOME INSPECTION LICENSE – STATE APPLICATIONS

We give you the License Application in Class and share with you how to fill it  out, where to send it, and when it is due. You must complete the 90 hour course, the Louisiana Home Inspector Examination and your 30 hours of field training and submit your certificate for each with your Residential Home Inspector License Application to receive a license.

About the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors (EBPHI)

The Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors (EBPHI) administers the Louisiana Home Inspector Examination at their locations in Metairie and Shreveport.
Please see below for registration procedures, fees, and times.
The examination consists of 200 multiple-choice questions and covers structural components, exterior roofing, plumbing, heating, cooling, electrical, insulation and ventilation, interiors, fireplaces and solid fuel burning appliances, and professional practice. All of these sections are covered in detail in our pre-license course.
Your chances of passing the first time are excellent when you attend our school.  We use up to date and state of the art textbooks along with instructors who know how to teach you what you need to know to pass the exam.  The test is not a “timed” test and virtually all students find they easily have enough time to finish the examination.  You are given 4 hours to take the test (they have to stop you sometime!), but most students find the they complete the test easily in approximately 2 hours.

Registration and Exam Fees

The fee for taking the Home Inspector Examination is $195.  You may register by mail,  telephone (the fastest and easiest method) or fax.  A VISA or MasterCard is required for telephone or fax.  We will give you the forms and telephone numbers and addresses you need to know when you attend class.

Exams are given Monday-Saturday on a ongoing basis.  While exam appointments may be made as little as one or two days in advance, your chances of getting the date and location of your choice increase the further in advance you register.  However, remember, you cannot schedule an exam date until your registration is complete with the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors, and you cannot register with EBPHI until you have completed the 90 classroom hours.

What score is needed to pass the exam?

In order to pass and get your Home Inspector License, you must achieve a 75% (150 out of 200 correct) on the EBPHI Exam.

When will I get the results of my exam?

The exam will be graded when you finish taking it at the exam center usually in less than five minutes.  Your official score report is then attached by you to your application and submitted to the Louisiana State Board of Home Inspectors.
